c\n\nPhase I: The class consists of (2) two day weekends. T
his 4 day course (which is a prerequisite for more advanced study) is
mainly practical. The material is based on Dr. Leon Hammer’s extensi
ve elaboration of the work of his teacher Dr. John H. F. Shen. The emp
hasis is on learning to accurately palpate the 6 principal and 22 comp
lementary pulse positions. The Qualities found on the pulse are identi
fied and described as well as the three Depths, Rhythm, Rate and an ov
erview of Interpretation.\n\nWhy the Pulse? According to Dr. Le
on Hammer: \"The art of Chinese Pulse Diagnosis has fallen into neglec
t. Even in centers teaching Chinese medicine, the pulse, the most effe
ctive and difficult to master diagnostic tool is often confusingly or
incompletely taught. Yet to study Chinese medicine without a thorough
and systematic understanding of the pulse, is to sacrifice the highest
potential to predict and prevent disease. For within the pulse lies t
he most detailed map of past, present, and future health….”\n\n
The Art of Learning to Read the Pulse:\nTraditionally the art of P
ulse Diagnosis has been passed down during a lengthy apprenticeship wi
th a master. This is no longer practical in our time. Based on years o
f study, apprenticeship, and teaching this tradition, Dr. Hammer has d
eveloped a precise and effective system to render the pulse understand
able and accessible to today's practitioner. His system differs from o
thers being currently taught in that:\n• This Pulse system, which Dr
. John Shen brought out of China, comes from an unbroken lineage of Ch
inese practitioners. It conveys in far greater detail the depth and br
eadth of the pulse's diagnostic capabilities to discern disharmonies o
f body, mind, emotion and spirit.\n• It can assess constitution, one
’s early and current life and predict possible future pathologies, a
ll with considerable accuracy.\n• It is based on classical tradition
but has been developed to meet the needs of our present time.\n• It
replaces the traditional one on one apprenticeship system with a smal
l group, experiential hands-on format designed to meet the needs of cu
rrent students and practitioners.\n\nFor more information visit ht
