Kevin Kee Use electronic pulse to heal and treat diseases

Magic Needle Multipurpose Acupuncture and Massage Therapeutic Instrument Chinese acupuncture theory states that acupoints on the auricle surface connect all the internal organs and limbs of the body. Any changes in the functioning of internal organs can be influenced by ear acupoints. Certain ear points have a relatively high electrical conductivity and induce an alleviating reaction whereever the corresponding internal organs or parts of the body are ailing. The lesions associated with some par… Continue

Amazing how quickly the first year of AIMC has flew by. It seems like yesterday when I first started, anxious and nervous about starting at AIMC and now it feels like a second home. It's been a great year and I can't wait until next year this time when I'll be able to actually work with patients in the clinic!!! Continue

Chris Kresser Exercise in a pill!

Don't like to exercise? Don't have time? Don't worry! Scientists have just developed a pill that will mimic the benefits of exercise. (Full story) This sounds like something straight out of George Lucas's THX-1199, Gattaca or any other dystopic sci-fi movie. I wish it was. I don't even know where to start with this one. What's next? A pill for relaxation, happiness and sexual prowess? Oh wait, we already have pills for that. What about… Continue

Chris Kresser Soy linked to low-sperm count (infertility) in men

See here for details: link In spite of the author's claim that there is "no cause for worry or reducing consumption of soy products" yet, I beg to differ. Countless studies have confirmed the dangerous effects of soy products for both men and women (and especially kids) alike. See here for more info: link Continue

Chris Kresser The heart of depression

The treatment of depression with drugs is based on the enormous collective delusion that psychiatric drugs act by correcting a chemical imbalance in the brain. As a result, a large percentage of the population has been convinced to take drugs in order to deal with the problems of daily life. Everything from break-ups to job difficulties to worries about the future have been transformed into “chemical problems”. The myth that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance has permeated public cons… Continue

Laureen Beach Plum Butter

Our organic plum tree had more plums than ever before so after I gave away what I could to my neighbors, I decided to make plum butter! It is still cooking and I am not adding but a bit of organic sugar because my husband is a diabetic. So we will see how this does. I have about six quarts right now and it will lose about a quart of fluid by the time it cooks down. If this goes well, I will buy the leftover fruit (not all of it!) from the Farmer's Market as I heard them say they had to throw out… Continue

Chris Kresser The "chemical imbalance" myth

The idea that depression and other mental health conditions are caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain is so deeply ingrained in our psyche that it seems almost sacrilegious to question it. Yet a thorough review of the evidence reveals that there is absolutely no evidence supporting the idea that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance, and an abundance of evidence that contradicts it. This is crucial, of course, because this "chemical imbalance" theory is the entire rationale b… Continue

Amy Shouse Think the pharmaceutical industry is screwed up? Oh...you have no idea!

Hello all, I often watch Bill Moyer's Journal online for reliable and smart news coverage. Last night I was watching his video interview with Melody Peterson. She wrote a very well researched (8 yrs) book on the pharmaceutical industry. I knew it was bad. I cringe whenever I see the reps in my Dr.'s office. I myself do believe that many pharmaceuticals are a valuable resource for those who need them. But the operative statement is "those who need them." As health care practitioners we need to… Continue

Chris Kresser The Soy Ploy

Although widely promoted as a health food, hundreds of studies link modern processed soy to malnutrition, digestive problems, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders, immune system breakdown, and even heart disease and cancer. How could soy be linked to all this disease? Because the soybean contains many naturally occurring toxins. All legumes contain toxins but the problem with soy is that the toxins are found in very high levels and are resistant to the traditional ways… Continue

Chris Kresser The Truth About Statins

Statins have been almost universally hailed as “wonder drugs” by medical authorities around the world. The market for statins was $26 billion in 2005, and sales for Lipitor alone reached $14 billion in 2006. Merck and Bristol Myers-Squib are actively seeking “over-the-counter” (OTC) status for their statin drugs. Statins are prescribed to men and women, children and the elderly, people with heart disease and people without heart disease. In fact, these drugs have a reputation for being so safe… Continue
